Founded by Nyasha Zimucha

In 2008, Nyasha Zimucha founded the GlobalCitizen Campaign (GCC) in response to xenophobic attacks in her native South Africa. It is the mission of the GCC to eradicate xenophobic behavior around the world by spreading the message of UBUNTU. The word "ubuntu" comes from the the Zulu language and is translated as "humanity." The philosophy behind ubuntu is based upon a person having a greater sense and understanding of community and humanity as a whole. Nyasha learned the importance of ubuntu from South Africa's most revered human rights advocate and statesmen, Nelson Mandela.

The GCC is committed to ensuring that the most disadvantaged and most vulnerable people, especially women and children, have access to resources necessary to improve their quality of life. By providing people with the tools, knowledge and skills to improve their own lives, Nyasha believes that the entire global community will benefit. We are spreading our resources across the globe in order to make equality a reality. The GCC's programs focus primarily on the following five sectors: Education, Health, Human Rights, Livelihoods and U.S. Troop Rehabilitation.

Through the development of strategic partnerships with organizations in America and around the world, Nyasha intends to use the GCC's platforms to promote unity and understanding by teaching people of all races and nationalities to live together as global citizens.

Regardless of all of the success she has enjoyed, Nyasha still remembers the humble beginnings from which she came. Growing up during the apartheid era in South Africa greatly influenced her actions and the perspective that has been the driving force behind the GCC. Her firm belief that no one should face discrimination based upon race, citizenship, gender, sexual orientation, religion or economic condition is the foundation of the GlobalCitizen Campaign.
